Consumer code

What Is the Consumer Code for New Home Builders?

The Consumer Code came into effect on 1st April 2010 and applies to all Homebuilders registered with the UK’s main new Home Warranty Bodies NHBC, Premier Guarantee, LABC Warranty and Checkmate. The code sets mandatory requirements that home builders must meet in their marketing and selling of new homes and their after-sales customer service. All homes reserved from the 1st January 2024 will be covered by the Fifth Edition.

The code was developed by the home building industry to ensure that all buyers are:
  • Treated in a fair and transparent manor
  • Given clear and reliable information / advice on which to make informed decisions when purchasing a new home and to ensure all buyers are fully informed about their purchase during the sale and after sale care.
  • Given information on what to expect with regards to service
  • Given information on how to access timely arrangements for resolving disputes should a problem occur along with a free dispute resolution service

You can get more information, including copies of the code documents and advice by visiting the Consumer Code website www.consumercode.co.uk or by clicking the logos below.
